People abashing universities became a trending topic in social media lately.

UP vs. UST entrance exams. After UST released the results of its entrance test on Monday, the UPCAT Facebook fan page poste a status update reading, “Lumabas na pala ang results ng USTET, walang thrill kasi madali lang naman nun. Last week pa ng February ang results ng UPCAT – walang kasing hirap kaya sulit ang paghihintay! ;)”

The post was immediately flooded with comments and was shared multiple times. After the post was deemed offensive, the administrator deleted the post and issued an apology.

The Tale of anna_addict. Not long after the entrance exam issue, an old post from PinoyExchange surfaced in social networking sites.

This post was also flooded with comments and was shared several times. “Nag-UP ka pa kung UPLB lang naman.” Although it is easy to pass in UPLB because of its relatively low UPG as compared to UP Diliman and UP Manila, it does not necessarily mean that eLBi is not a good campus. The low cut off can be explained by popularity. Since UPD and UPM are both situated in the National Capital Region, it has gained popularity among students and therefore, a reasonable number of students pick either of the two as their first choice.

It is true that UPLB is known for agriculture but it is just one of the fields the campus is known for. Mocking agriculture is like mocking food. More so, the Philippines is an agricultural country.

Had only UPLB is located in the National Capital Region, we could have been the flagship campus.

The indifferent masochist. Yesterday, a text post from Tumblr user theindifferentmasochist became a trending topic among different social networking sites.

Just because you know a few “bobo” people who passed the entrance exam from a certain university does not mean that the entire university is one.

Wala sa pamantasan ang sukatan ng pagiging magaling, nasa mag-aaral pa rin. Stop bashing. At the end of the day, the one who defames is the one who becomes infamous.
